I have a 93 lumina 3.1v and having a real problem. It keeps stalling and lossing power. I have it in and out of the shop recently and no one can give me a true answer. The engine lite comes on and it stalls then as long as it stays on the speedometer won't work then the light goes out it runs fine, like nothing is wrong. Oh and did I mention the exhaust leak that no one can find? The mechanics have check the exhaust system and can't find a problem. I have taken it to Midas about 8mths ago and replace the cad convertor. And its been back to them and they say no leak. It is only noticable when accelerating. HELP! Somebody, please. :

U losing power may be ur altenator going bad, I had the same problem with my 1990 lumina, as for ur exhaust leak, have around where the exhaust manifold on ur engine looked at, there may be a rust whole, or the bolts that hold it together maybe going bad.

Sorry for the late reply.

If the issue happens at idle, I'd clean the throttle body then check and clean the idle air system. Check fuel pressure. With intermittent issues, you have to test when problem is ongoing.

As far as the speedometer, I'd check vehicle speed sensor, where applicable.

Check for applicable trouble codes. Your obd1, you should be able to check some codes, yourself. To check codes, use a jumper wire between A & B terminals at the data link connector. Then turn key just till dash lites come on, no further, then the mil on the dash starts flashing, you count the flashes to get the codes. Your looking for two digit codes.
