I have a 98 F150 with 85000 mi. My question is what would be considered a normal time frame for replacing front ball joints and tie rods under normal driving conditions?

Thanks for the response, I guess that was my question: At what point can one expect them to wear out under normal driving conditions?

My 1997 Explorer had both upper and lower ball joints replaced at 120,000 miles.

Really, it all depends on the driver and how well you maintain your vehicle

I didn mine on a 98 f-150 2000 miles later than you so I would say that is about typical. Make sure you either get lifetime warranty ones or ones with grease fittings most are lifetime and at least you won't have to pay for the parts again.
