Check engine light

My check engine light came on. When I pulled over I noticed my car was leaking water. When I tried to start the engine again it would not start and the check engine light is still on. Would a water pump failure cause the engine not to start?

the engine ligh tells you something is wrong. with loosing water check for the leak. with it not having water the engine may have just overheated causing a temporary vapor lock. if the water leak was on top it may have gotten some wires wet causing it to short out. and not start, usually around the
coil area
