Engine Mechanical problem
2001 Chevy Impala V8 Front Wheel Drive Automatic

2001 chevy impala with an intermittent starting problem. starts when it wants to - no cranking, all lights and radio work. have tried letting it sit for 10-15 minutes, jumping battery - has a new battery, letting hood stay open while waiting, rotating relays, rocking car, trying to start in neutral, mechanic had no problems with it starting after keeping it overnight and said it had no error codes. have been stranded for over 4 hrs more than 5 times in past 3 mths.

would take it to dealer but i am a single mother and cannot afford to.

Hi noodledance,

I believe you have a starter with a problem and it will most likely not get any better until it is replaced. Usually with an intermittent like this, the commutator ( inside the starter ) has material caked-up between some of it's segments.

Most of the major auto parts stores will check the starter operation if you can get it removed and take it in to them. Otherwise, a trip to a mechanic is the only option.

also noted that the car will not start when the inside of the car gets hot.. if you leave the windows down and put a sunvisor in then the car starts
