My 2001 Impala has a lot of miles on it; but the problem is - sometimes when I go to start the vehicle it won't kick over or start. The radio and interior lights are all working it just won't start. The Security light also flashes when this problem is occuring! Sometimes we shift it from park to reverse to see if it's stuck and after a few times and just letting it sit there for at least 15 minutes it will just decide to start like nothing was wrong? Could it be anything with the gears and shifting or maybe a sensor that's telling the vehicle the car isn't in park?

Have you had the car checked for trouble codes (security codes)

No I haven't. Would the dealership just hook it up to a computer?

I'm having the same problems with a 2001 impala. (129000 miles) My mechanic scanned the car after the last incident but didn't show any codes. The passlock and BCM have both been replaced in the last 18 months but no help. I would be interested in what you find out, it seems that this may be a fairly common problem but I haven't seen a solution yet.

Your mechanic needs a tech 2 scantool, a regular scantool only reads pcm (engine codes) a tech 2 reads bcm codes as well. As far as the bcm, mine too had to be replaced, as well as other owners I know, GM is jyst too cheap to recall these pieces of junk.
