2001 Chevy Impala inaccurate fuel reading

I cannot tell that I am low on fuel until its empty and the light come on low fuel. Guage does not register. It floats

Welcome to the forum. You can use different resistors at the proper terminals, for the fuel pump connector/sending unit. If the gage on the dash reacts properly and steady to each resistor, then everything from the test-point to the gage is ok. If the connector is ok, the problem is the sending unit in the tank.

If the gage still acts-up, possible problem with dash cluster-- pcm-- wiring circuit.
