My check engine light came on at roughly 122,000 miles on my 2000 Chevy Impala. Prior to that and currently, during initial cold take offs the car surges or hesitates when pressing on the gas...similar to the car choking. Is this an oxygen sensor or clogged fuel filter?

Have the computer scanned for code/s-you have a problem within the engine management system that caused the CEL to turn on-This is your starting point of diagnosis, finding out what's going on

Turns out my master air flow sensor was on its last leg. I had it replaced and the car is now running fine.
