I have a 1996 Chevy Corsica 2.2L. The car died yesterday and it was towed back to the house. It ran a little hotter than normal before dieing. After it had cooled I started it again and it ran for a few seconds and stalled and wouldn't start again. The belt was very smooth I figured maybe it was slipping and therefore wasn't turning the water pump as it should have been and that was why it ran hot and is why it stalled. I changed the belt and it started and stayed running but there's a knocking coming from the area of the #4 cylinder, I have a check engine light, and it stills runs rough and does not have the same pick-up it used to.

Have you checked the antifreeze level yet? And if the knock sensor is picking up the knock, it will retard the timing. Do a compression check on all cylinders with all plugs removed and fuel pump relay removed.

I checked the antifreeze level, it was fine. I don't have a compression gauge to check the cylinders. I checked the code for the check engine light and cleared it. It was a MAP sensor high voltage code. Could this have anything at all to do with the knocking sound I heard?

Map sensor probles can make the engine run like crap, and could cause noise. Unplug the sensor and see if it runs better, if so replace the sensor.
