1997 Chevy Cheyenne will not start unless spray ether in ai

Engine Performance problem
1997 Chevy Cheyenne V8 Automatic 128.00 miles

and then it runs great, turn off for couple minutes starts. Leave off for 5 minutes won't start, installed gas filter now durn thing won't start even with ether,
checked gas fikter was installed right losened front fitting and gas was running out so it seems ok.
any help would be appreciated.
