I have a 1994 chevy pick up that has trouble when starting after sitting for several hours. It starts right up but runs for a few seconds then speeds up and dies. It does this for several times, sometimes as many as 25-30 before it will stay running.

4.3-Z. Might need a new Idle Speed Control Motor. Sounds like yours is getting sticky/lazy. You can try cleaning it with carb cleaner to see if it makes a difernece. It is the round motor on the side of the throttle body (pass side) with a square 4 wire connector, be careful with the gasket
