My car will give me problems starting. It will make clicking noises in the driver's side dashboard area when it's not going to start. It will also randomly shut off on me when I'm driving, whether I'm backing out the driveway or doing 70 down the freeway. When it shuts down the gauges and lights in the dash stay on, only the speedometer drops to 0. As if I were standing still with my key turned so only my battery is on. I have had the fuel pump replaced twice and the fuse block replaced as well. Any ideas on what the hell is going on? Thanks!

Random/intermittent problems are difficult to diagnose.

Start with main battery connections, make sure they are clean and tight.

Next disconnect electrical connectors and spray with electronics cleaner.

Mechanics have a device which will trace shorts or open wires, but it is labor intensive.

The other possibility is the ignition switch is faulty, like turning the key off.
