I have a 2000 chevy cavalier. Automatic. 183000 km on it. When I go out in the morning to start my car it sputters and has a very rough idle and dont stall. Seems to get better but always comes back. But today it wont go away. It always sputters when I start the car up. I dont have a clue what is going on with it. I can feel it mis-firing when im at a stop in the car and its always rough after stoppign the enine and starting it up. I changed the plugs 2 days ago and seemed to get good for a while but then came back. Any help would be greatyly appreiciated! Thank you!

Could be one of the following:

Oxygen sensor
Catalytic converter
Dirty fuel injectors (cleaning the injectors often fixes this).
Bad MAP (manifold absolute pressure) sensor
Bad TPS (throttle position) sensor
Bad or dirty MAF (mass airflow) sensor
Low fuel pressure (leaky fuel pressure regulator or weak fuel pump)
Vacuum leaks (intake manifold, vacuum hoses, throttle body, EGR valve)
Bad gasoline (fuel contaminated with water or too much alcohol)

Sometimes, what feels like a hesitation is actually ignition misfire rather than lean misfire. The causes of ignition misfire may include:

Dirty or worn spark plugs
Bad plug wires
Weak ignition coil
Wet plug wires

Just found out the idiot I bought the car from ran it without a fuel filter, so what would the problem be now? Maybe the injectors? So what about using a fuel addictive to clean the fuel injectors or they need to be taken out of the engine and cleaned? I am going to get the car in the garage to get the fuel filter back on it. What do you think the problem would be. Also noticed tonight that the engine light blinked about 10 times or more then stayed on.
