hei distributor

i have a 1983 camaro that has had an enging swap, it now has a 350 i believe it is a 1983
my question is the hei ditributor has a plug going to
what i believe is a ( e c m ) unit i am going to be racing the car and don't need any emisson stuff on the car can i just unplug it or do i need a whole new distributor without that plug?

If it has that 4 wire plug on it then it is computer controlled. Your best bet would be to get a new distributer. I would recomend looking at one of the D.U.I. models The have some that a reasonably priced with the 50,000 volt coil. They come complete with cap and rotor and all. Make sure that you tell them what you want it for. If you go by application you will wind up with the same type of distributer that you have now....
