car been sitting for 6 months. Last time I had messed with the camaro about three months ago it would start then idle like an old big block and stall if I pressed the throttle it would settle down and run real good for 5 minutes then start idle crazy and die so I stopped messing with it afraid I blow up the engine

If the car has been sitting for that long the gas might have gone bad. I would start by draining the gas if there is a lot in there, if not just let it run until its low then add 5 or 10 gallons of new gas along with some fuel injector cleaner and octane booster. Change the fuel filter and then let it run at about 1500 rpms for a short time, 10 or 15 minutes. Chances are the problem is in the fuel system, the gas will smell different so you will be able to smell if it is bad. Open your gas cap and shake the car, you should be able to smell it that way.
