My 1999 chevorlet blazer is making a horrible grinding like noise when you turn it on. I belive it to be the unit bearings have gone bad, but how do you get to it to replace. Do you have to take apart the dash or can you go in under the hood?
I'm on a fixed income with a teenage boy driving the vehicle in the winter in Nevada.

Is the noise coming from the fan blower?

I believe so. It is right under the hood on the passenger side. Heat comes out and the defrost and air work, but the noise is horrible.

That's the blower motor. It could be bad or it could just have leaves or something caught in it. You'll have to remove the motor to see if anything is caught in it.

Thank you. But how do you do that? Do you have to go through the dash or can you do that under the hood? There doesn't seem to be enough room under the hood.

Typically what would this cost if I took it to a mechanic versus getting my neighbor to do it?

The labor is an hour and a half which should be under $150 plus any parts.
