Hello,

In order to replace the fuel pump, the fuel tank needs to be removed, as the pump is located inside the tank.

Here is a helpful guide:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-replace-an-electric-fuel-pump

Those fuel pumps can cost between $80.00 to $140.00 depending on the brand.
As for the installation it will vary as each shop has different labor rates.

It is always a good idea to call a few shops to choose the best option.

I have attached diagrams for the fuel pump replacement procedure below for your reference.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thank you.

I am a smart woman but realistically am I going to be able to do this myself? Or should I be calling mechanics now?

A fuel pump is lubricated by the fuel in the tank that it's submerged in but I wouldn't consider it in a category of "lubricated parts" although I would bet that there is some warranty company trying to do that.

The filter is probably the only other thing to deal with at the time but have him make the the electrical plugs have good tight contacts. GM has a lot of problems with them.

Engine Performance problem
1998 Chevy Blazer 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Automatic

My 98 blazer will start and run for about 20 minutes. Once it gets hot it will shut off. Whether that has anything to do with it shutting off or not is beyond me. when it shuts off the fuel pump seems to make a different noise than when it starts. fuel pump was replaced last year along with the filter. Fuel is in the tank at 1/2. It will not restart immediately but if I wait 5 minutes or so no problem....vroom. Now it will only run for about 1 minute.

Make sue the fuel tank is as close to empty as you can get it. Disconnect the battery, remove the mounting straps from the tank and the tank will drop down and out. I would suggest using a floor jack to lower the tank. It could be heavy. The fuel pump is on the top with one large retaining clip holding it in. Remove the clip and the pump comes out.

If you have other questions, let me know.
