fuel guage not reading accurately. Goes to Full when car is cranked, then goes back down to what I believe is normal. Yes, it got me, I ran out of gas for the first time in my life. Will fuel additive help or does the sensor need replacing?

the last time I asked a question, I found out where it was and how to change my turn signal flasher. I did the work myself.

I had the same problem in my 97 jimmy. The fuel guage is a part of the fuel pump. I had to replace it last year. You have to lift the truck and drop the fuel tank. It's easier when the tank is low because it won't be as heavy. You have to pry the tank off the truck with a 4 foot pry bar. We were both doing pull ups on it at the same time trying to take it off. Be carefull my friend and I broke 2 of the 3 fuel lines using the pry bar. You can change just the lever, but if you break the fuel lines like we did you will have to change the fuel pump. The intire pump was about $160.
