My 1996 Blazer seems to choke for gas then cuts out. It will be running fine but as soon as I hit a hill or something that requires a bit more pedal it chokes and dies. It then acts as if it is out of gas and sometimes has to sit for an hour or so before it will start again. Also it will start to sputter and run erratically when driving normally. I had the fuel system cleaned out yesterday and it ran fine for about an hour then started acting up again. I am thinking it may be the fuel pump is on the way out but before taking on this expense is there anything else I should be looking at?

I'd check fuel pressure, with a gage. The discount autostore sells fuel pressure gages, the last time I looked, they were cheaper than a pump. They're good enough for a tune-up, not the best. Can you check codes? Some of the national brand autostores will check codes for free.
