Transmission problem
1996 Chevy Blazer 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Automatic 161 K miles

One day I had overdrive and nothing was wrong the next day I didn't. My s-10 Blazer starts in 2nd gear and only switches to Drive. No 1st or Overdrive. Any ideas on what is causing it. Dealer says Torque convertor is bad. But before I go tearing off 3 cross members, transfer case, exhaust and countless fuel lines and sensor wires I wanted to hear another idea. Would a Lucas Transmission in a can work? I am going to change the filter and fluid and I'll see what happens then. But any guidance would be appreciated.

Does it still have reverse? If yes then it is probably the converter OR a bad shift solenoid in the trans. You would need to do some more testing to figure out which.
If you lost reverse as well it is time to rebuild. You lost the sun shell carrier assembly.
Either way NOTHING in a can is going to make a difference.

I still have reverse without any problems. So I guess I'll start at the solenoid and work up from there.
