I was driving my 2007 avalanche which has no other issues and the indicator under the gear select that shows what gear you are in went out and the cruise control would not respond. Wehn it shifted it was rough from first into second and less with each gear after ( oprobably becasue I was rolling). A check engine indicator did copme on. I was a long ways from home and no servcie available so I drove it home about 200 miles with no other new problems. Next day the problem cleared but took it to dealer. They got in and the servcie traction ligt came on. They said the computer was displaying dozens of codes and I must have a short but could find nothing.

Starts fine and problem comes and goes. Help

Here is what the issue turned out to be. Local Dealer thought it was a short in the wiring but turned out not to be.
First the battery had a bad cell and would short out which would cause the computer to store false indicators. Second when the battery slowly failed more issues were sent to the computer. Lastly when I had to jump the vehicle the surge was the final issue to the computer and it began to lock up during processing which sent numerous issues. I called a dealer in a larger metro area and asked the service department for advise. I was told to disconnect the battery and wait two hours then reconnect. That cleared and reset the computer. All is now good. Just have to know who to ask!

New battery and a PCM reset? Keep an eye on it. Did you have the battery tested for a dead cell?
