ive had a mechanic look at my van and he said it was way out of time .so i had him replace the timing gears and chain.and i drove it home.but now it will not start at all.after discussing the problem to the mechanic again now hes saying its the fuel pump, but i can hear the fuel pump running when i turn the key.is there anything i can do myself to try to problem solve my issues???

i once had a ford that had a switch for the fuel pump.but even then it wouldnt make a sound when i turned the key on it till i reset the switch.is this van equipted with such a switch?i dont have an owners manuel i bought it used

The above link may have your owners manual, it's free. Type in year--make--model. There is another web site that has GM owners manuals online. gmownercenter.yahoo.com, something like that.

I'd use a fuel pressure gage before I suspected the pump. Some of the national brand auto stores used to loan out a fuel pressure gage. There is no fuel pump shut-off switch, if that is what your talking about? If you have the 4.3L engine, fuel pressure is 60--66 psi.

Low fuel pressure might cause that. If you have the spider fuel system, the fuel poippets may need cleaning, if it is a fuel issue?
