What's wrong with the oil pump that you are replacing it-is it due to low oil pressure? Might not be the oil pump

Yesterday I put on about two hundered miles and parked in the garage. Got up this morning to leave and I have a knocking noise from the engine. Check oil level and was all right. Pressure gauge shows 40 at idle and then put it in gear it pegs the indicator at 80 and gets real loud. Any ideas. Thanks

80psi is too high -get the oil pressure check-knocking noises is normally caused by low oil pressure/engine bearings/oil pump failure-sounds like the oil is not circulating properly-
