Hello, sometimes it helps to have another person standing at the end of the hood, as you pull on the release mechanism, have the other person pop the hood with the palm of their hand, in the area of the latch. If that doesn't work, you might remove the grill, see if you can reach anything?

I maintain a small fleet of Astros/Safaris. The main problem with the hood release is lack of lubrication, and a build up of dirt. Have someone pull and hold the release handle, then slap the hood with the palm of your hand. This will usually "pop" the hood. The next thing you want to do is clean and lube the latch assy. I usually use a shot of air and CRC or the equivalent.
