My altenatopr went out while in the mountains. I ran the vehicle as far as I could draining the battery. It was barely running and had black smoke from the exhaust. I had it towed and replaced the altenator, now it will not start. What should I start looking for?

Fuel and spark

Get a helper disconnect a sparkplug wire or 2 and ground it to the engine -have helper crank engine over-do you have a snapping blue spark? If so-you have a fuel related problem, check the fuel pressure to rule out the fuel filter/fuel pump/pressure regulator and listen to the injector/s are they pulsing or hook up a noid light. No snapping blue spark continue to troubleshoot the ignition system-power input to the coil/coil packs, coil's resistances, distributor pick-up coil, ignition control module, cam and crank sensors- Note: If it doesn't apply disregard it

Hi, the plug wires on an astro are difficult to reach so I disconnected the coil wire from the distributor, trued turning ove and no blue spark so I appear to have an ignition issue, not sure what to try next. Checked all fuses

Check for power to the coil, test the coil, distributor pick-up coil, ignition control module and cam sensor on side of the distributor
