The car seems to be running perfectly well, and it did go off for a little while, but now it is back on.

Welcome to 2CarPros.

When the check engine light turns on, the car's computer has determined an issue with one of several different components. Since your car continued to run fine, chances are there is an issue with the evaporative emissions system (EVAP).

Now, if that is correct, it could be something as simple as a loose or bad fuel cap, so check that first. Next, you really should scan the computer for diagnostic trouble codes. The codes will help identify the root of the problem.

Here is a quick video showing how it is done:

Now, I realize most people don't own a scanner. However, most nationally recognized parts stores will do it for free or even rent a scanner to you. With that in mind, have that done and let me know what codes are retrieved. The code will be a 4 digit number preceded by the letter P. For example, P0420. If you can get me the codes, I can point you in the right directions.

Take care and let me know if you have other questions. I will watch for your reply.

Joe
