I've tried everything I can and nothing will work. Any time I try to hook up the battery the first time I try to start it there is a single click like the starter is trying to click on but nothing. Any time after that and there is no sound whatsoever. My brother hooked a torque wrench to the harmonic balancer and it won't budge. I really don't want to junk my car if I don't have to. Please help.

Hi,

If you were unable to turn the engine with a torque wrench, it sounds like it is locked up. Do me a favor. Remove the spark plugs and see if it can then be turned. Pay attention if anything comes out of the spark plug holes when turning the engine.

Also, what led to this happening? Were there any engine noises such as ticking, knocking, and so on?

Take a look at this link:

Was the engine running okay and this just happened? Was there any consumption of engine coolant? Is the oil in the engine that is clean and full?

Let me know. Also, since you only get one click, make sure the battery terminals are clean and tight. Also, make sure the battery is fully charged. A loose connection between the battery and the starter can cause the click then nothing.

Also, the pic below contains the directions for the removal and replacement of spark plugs. When you disconnect the spark plug wires, make sure to remember which cylinder/spark plug they went to. You don't want to mix them up. Additionally, here is a link that shows in general how it is done. I am not suggesting the replacement of the plugs. I just want to see if the engine turns with them out of the engine.

Once they are out, compression is removed and the engine will turn easier. Also, if there is a cylinder full of coolant preventing it from turning will push the coolant out and the engine will be able to turn.

Let me know what you find.

Take care,

Joe
