Have a small leak from my gas tank and now whenever I crank the car I have to hold it before it catch. But it won't do that every time maybe 50 percent of the time. What could that be?

Umm. You should never NEVER a car with a fuel leak. Are you saying you have to hold the key to the start position for it to finally start? If so then your leak may be from a supply line on top of or near the tank. When you first turn your key to accessories, It primes the fuel pump to build pressure to start. If it is losing pressure then it will be more difficult to start.
