I have a 97 cavalier, 2.24cyl. 2wd. It has approx 151,000 on it. I replaced the water pump due to it was leaking. Afterwards the car seemed to bog down. I replaced the pugs and wires and that seemed to be a temp. solution. Driving home a few days ago, i heard a "pop" then a scraping sound. I pulled over to check to see if it was maybe my exhaust. It wasnt. Now whenever I go up a hill, I gradulaly lose speed and momentum. Flat surfaces fine. downhill, fine. Its only when going uphill. It seems like the transmission is shifting harder as well. Any help or suggestions?

First thing I would do is get the computer (OB2) scanned. This will make it easier to help in the diagnosis. Most auto part stores will do this for free. When you get the codes, write them down and let me know what they are. There are many problems that could create this symptom and without speculating for hours let's try this out first and I'll be happy to help you out in finding the problem.

Thanks look forward to your reply
