My car's battery drained during -30-degree Celsius weather. The following day I couldn't open the door with my key fob or to that matter with my regular key as the key would only go in halfway like it was jammed with something. Eventually I got the door open with a wire hanger, and the car wouldn't turn over. I had a jump start and I got the car running, later on I got a new battery. My key for the door went all the way in the door but the key fob didn't work anymore, I tried reprogramming the fobs by using the DLC option, but it would not go into "remote key learning activated" mode. I tried resetting the car by holding the battery terminal arms together for 10 seconds, but again it would not activate but it made 1 beep but would not beep again unless I reset the car via holding terminal arms together again. I feel I might have the wrong battery in the car. But something to note that my negative terminal arm is a little worn ei, it's doesn't wrap around the terminal I have made a make-shift so it bends over it and is basically only working due to touching, also the DLC says I need to change remote battery but I have done so but still doesn't change anything.

Hi,

First, replace the battery terminal. That has to be done. A weak connection can cause all kinds of different issues.

Also, try this. It is listed under a technical service bulletin and may help.

If a button or buttons on a transmitter are not functioning, or if a transmitter cannot be programmed to a vehicle, press and release each and every button on the fob one at a time until you find one that works then retest the other buttons. If all buttons are now working, the button(s) were disabled, and the transmitter is working as designed.

Let me know if that helps.

Hey Joe, thanks for replying.

I tried out all the buttons on both of my fobs still no luck. I will be working on getting that terminal to get in fixed, although I feel this is one of those ghost problems. I read online that sometimes the issue is deeper, i.E, BCM (body control module) but I can't believe that just yet, becuas3 it was working just fine one day and happened after flash freeze the next day. I also tried checking the fuse for the power locks and windows, but it seems fine. This might need a dealer's help, but I wish I could figure it out without paying their heft.

Hi,

Certainly, it can be the result of a more in-depth issue, but I agree with you at this point.

Do me a favor. Have the battery terminal repaired and let me know if that changes anything. Chances are it won't, but anything is possible. Many years ago, I was taught if there is any type of electrical issue, start at the power source, the battery.

Let me know. Also, we can dive further into this if needed.

Take care,

Joe
