Recently had a guy change rockers and lifters on my rear cylinder RH. After he returned the car to me, I had a rough ticking and metal rubbing sound. I took the valve cover off and found the exhaust camshaft was destroyed. It was as if no oil was added to the camshaft when he put it back together. Two of the three bearings were fried from friction of metal on metal with no oil. They were bone dry. SO... I took it upon myself to buy a used cylinder head to replace that one. Took the upper half of the engine apart. Pulled the front head off as well and thoroughly cleaned both heads till they were looking new. Pulled every lifter and rocker and oiled every part I could. Put the current timing chain back on, per repair manual instructions. After getting the car back together and running smooth, idle, I went on a test drive. No, I started getting codes:
-P0011 Intake Camshaft Position System Performance
-P0014 Exhaust Camsgaft Position System Performance
-P0021 Camshaft Position Control
-P0024 Camshaft Position Control

Along with these also getting Stabil Trak failure.

I pulled the solenoids out and double checked them for sludge or obstruction on the screens. They were clean.

Now I’m back to getting these codes again and a tick/knock sound. Fresh oil and filter. (Oil feels a little thin on the dipstick to me)

I’m stuck.

Hi,

What led to having the person replace rockers and lifters? Also, were any of these codes present prior to the repairs?

The codes you have are for both engine banks and not only the one that was originally repaired.

Is there any indication that the oil pressure is low? Have you checked it? I attached a pic below showing the minimum pressures required.

Let me know. Also, if you could record the noise and upload it for me to hear, it may help.

Joe

The prompt for repairs was due to lifter tick. Was getting to be obnoxious. Lol. No codes prior to repair other than I need to replace the IMT valve, and the Evap canister solenoid is bad. I will work on a video after I get off work. No, I have not checked the oil pressure yet. I will have to look at it as well.

Can’t find a way to read the oil pressure on this car. But it runs and drives fine in the 20 miles or so we drive it to work. The codes come and go occasionally. Not sure what’s going on. Possible it’s the timing? Chain? Phasers?

As far as checking oil pressure, there is an adapter that goes in place of the oil filter. See pic 1 below.

In addition, you need an oil pressure gauge. It's actually an easier one to do if you have the tools.

I attached the directions below for you to review.

Let me know if you have questions,

Take care,

Joe
