Hi:
This can happen for several reasons. First, are the cooling fans coming on when the car heats up? Also, has the radiator been flushed or rodded out? Many time the rad will develope corrosion over the years not allowing proper flow for the coolant. Also, make sure none of the rad hoses are collapsing when the car is hot. If they pinch off the flow it will overheat.

Let me know if this helps, or if you have other questions.

Joe
