I dont know much about cars and about a month ago the computer screen in my car was saying STOP ENGINE and ENGINE OVERHEATED and eventually my car just shut off. I can only drive it for about a few miles then it just shuts off. I would just like to know what exactly could be the problem. When I called for someone to come tow my car back home he suggested that maybe its low or has no water so he instructed me to put water in the container that says coolant fluid Im not sure if that was the right place to put the water because I was told it wasnt by someone else. Could you please give me any information you have about this

Well it is obviously overheating so you shouldn't drive it until you get the issue fixed.

Check your coolant level to see if it is at proper level. There are several things that can cause a vehicle to overheat. First thing you need to do is look for any leaks if the coolant is low. Under the car, around the water pump, and around the radiator and hoses are good places to look.

If there is no leak, you may have a faulty thermostat that needs replaced.

Check for leaks first then post your results and I will follow up.
