Hi, I have a 1990 cadillac deville, 4.9 liter motor. My problem is that when driving it for a period of twenty to thirty minutes it becomes extremely hot, and when I cut it off, or let it idle for a few minutes, it will cut off and not start back up until it seems to cool down. It stalled out on me at a stop light the other day, and I could not get it restarted. My service engine soon light came on also. So after blocking up traffic for a few turns, some guy was nice enough to help me push it out of the way and looked it over. When I turned the key while it was hot, the crank seemed to turn faster than usual without starting, so he pulled off the air intake pipe and noticed it was dry, no fuel, so he told me to try holding down the gas pedal while cranking, and after a few turns it fired once but nothing else. He said it could be the module was going bad, but im not sure what that is. Also, when trying to start it hot, the engine tempature light stays on, but only while cranking. After it cooled down it started up with no problem, but I am extremely worried. I have no clue why it gets that hot, and also why it needs time to cool down before it will start back up, but if anyone could help me I would be much apreciative, because at the moment this car is the only transportation I have.

It is possible that the thermostat is stuck closed, or poorly regulating temperature, causing the overheat. Is the coolant full, and when it is erxtremely hot, can you still touch the upper radiator hose? The module is a possibility of failing to start when hot, and starting after it cools. One way to verify is checking for spark when it stalls and won't start. It is not the only item that can cause your symptom, but a probability. You need to verify what is being lost when the problem occurs, to narrow it down. It could be losing fuel pressure as well.
