When I turn the ac on it blows from the defroster vents. Sometimes even when I turn just heat on I do not get anything coming out of the front vents either.I understand that vacuum could be a problem, but anything else to look for?

Ok vacuum could be it could be the BCM too. I need to know if it is automatic a/c or manual. Get back to me with that. Here is the vacuum schematic for you car so you can check that first.
