Burning smell front blower stopped

My wife was driving our vehicle and smelled burning rubber and then the blower stopped. I checked and it is not working on any speed.

The rear vents are blowing okay. Also, there seems to be a really loud fan kicking on in the engine compartment occasionally since that happened. Not sure if that is related.

What is the best way to determine if it is a relay, resistor, fuse, motor or something else?

It sounds like the blower motor shorted out.
