Strong gas odor in engine compartment on passenger side, with gas odor overpowering us inside car. No other issues with the car, and this just recently started. We have replaced the gas cap, and since the car runs good, don't suspect the catalytic converter. Please help!

Hi there,

you should be looking along the fuel lines for a leak, start at the tank and work forward.

We have traced the fuel lines all the way from the tank to the engine and there are absolutely no detectable leaks any where on the car. Another problem is, the extreme odor build-up does not happen often. We mainly notice it happen if we have to sit and idle for a period of time, and then drive. Still, we find no leaks. It is as though something does not open to release fumes every time, and a build-up of the fumes backs up into the cabin when this happens.
