Electrical problem
1997 Buick Park Avenue V8 60000 miles

my inlaws 97 park ave. Has gone dead when I opened the door the battery was dead and the car was chiming like the key was in the ignition and the time was lite up on the radio. I jumped car and found nothing left on lights etc. Also the fuel gauge was pegged below the pin on empty. I took dash apart and got the gauge fixed and now reads accurate, could the battery go dead and cause this problem or is there a short somewhere and causing the battery to go dead.?

The next time your gauge goes backwards, don't take it apart. A quick fix: Get a good magnet. Hold it close to the plastic glass in front of the gauge. Turn the magnet counter clockwise until the needle gets back to normal position.
