Engine Performance problem
1993 Buick Lesabre 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 180K miles

About 3 months ago I replaced the head gaskets and valve cover gaskets. Car ran great after that, then one day when I started it, it did not start immediately just a tiny noticeable difference (I thought nothing of it). Later that afternoon it would not start until the 3rd or 4th try, and I got about two blocks down the street and at the light it stalled. And would not stay on unless I gave it lots of gas. I managed to get back home and now if the car sits for a week or so, I can crank it and it runs fine for about 5 minutes then begins to act as if it is running to rich or not rich enough. As if it is not getting enough gas or too much air.

I can crank it again and the run time decreases the more I try it, from 5 minutes to 3 minutes then 1 and then will not stay on at all. What can I check look for? I removed the air breather assy. but not much (I don't think) I can do there?

Also I forgot to mention, since all this stalling happened it now sounds like it is sucking air really hard somewhere internally but can't figure out where. Any suggestions what I should do?

Thank you

Hi:
I would first check to make sure the fuel pump and regulator are working. I would recommend that you have the fuel pump pressure checked.

Also, l the loud vacuum you're hearing is a concern to me. Check for an intake leak, make sure the throttle body is tight, and if all is good, do a compression test to make sure the head gasket is still ok.

Let me know if this helps, or if you have any other questions.
