Hello,
I recently had my '02 X5 4.6is serviced for an oil leak. The service rep told me that my truck was in dire need of a "major maintenance". I had asked him what it entailed and he kinda just said that all my fluids and as well as all my filters needed to be replaced and that it would cost on the upwards of about twelve hundred dollars. My question is exactly what exactly involves a major maintenance and if it is really worth the money. Thank you

What the recommendation sounds like to me is an inspection two service and is due at 60k miles. It involves replacement of all fluids and filters, visual inspection of the entire vehicle for possible maintenance issues, reading out and correcting faults if any, and recommending repairs that may be required. Where was the oil leak and what was done to repair it? $1200 is a fair amount of coin and I do not feel comfortable giving you my recommendation without knowing more about who is doing the work and what their credentials are.
