Regarding a 2003 745IL. While slowing to stop the transmission seems to jump into low gear with somewhat of a jar. An independent BMW mechanic has advised me that the problem is a rubber boot that typically wears out on this model, and it is not a serious problem. I recently had the car serviced at a BMW dealership and they did not mention any problems when they ran a systems check on the car. This type of downshift just seems unusual to me. Am I overly concerned?

Your trip to the dealership had the harsh shift issue brought to the service writers attention and nothing was done? This could be a software issue. As far as your concern, I would see if the car had the latest and greatest version of software and there is a bulletin dealing with this #240405

Not sure what ypu are referring to regarding bulletin. The dealership allegedly ran a computer check on the transmission.

The reference is to the bulletin number that deals with your problem specifically. Just because they scanned it for faults does not mean the software is current.
