I have tried to answer these questions before and I have finally come to the conclusion that if you have to ask, then you should be seeking out a professional to perform this simple task. A 2004 BMW is not a difficult oil change. Remove the filter and drain the oil and then install a new filter and the correct amount of the right oil.
