1999 BMW 323 Looking for name of mystery part.

My friend is working on my car and says this particular part is what is malfunctioning on my car but does not know the name of it because it is only found in BMW's. He verbally described the part as an electronic fuel switching valve. kind of like a railroad track switch. It has the pressure regulator embossed in it.
