According to maintenance records, bank 1 catalytic converter was replaced at 188,888 miles but bank 2 was not (dealer only had bank 1 in stock). Dealer cleared codes and it's been fine until yesterday. Now I'm getting a check engine light and code reader is showing its bank 2 below efficiency.

How difficult would it be to replace the bank 2 catalytic converter myself? I tried watching a video and it mentions having to remove the front bumper?

Hello,

In order to replace the bank 2 catalytic converter, you will have to remove the front bumper as well as the A/C condenser and the radiator. Which will require you to drain the radiator and evacuate the A/C system.

Keep in mind that many times the efficiency codes are due to a faulty oxygen sensor and not the catalytic converter.

Here is a guide on how to test the catalytic converter:

Do you know exactly what code you have got for this?

I have attached replacement steps for the bank 2 catalytic converter as well as the bumper removal procedure below for your reference.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thank you.

Okay, I figured since bank 1 was replaced already that bank 2 might be on its way out too. I cleared the codes already but if it pops up again, I'll write it down. I know it said it was below efficiency.

It is possible to have a bad converter, but you want to be sure before replacing it as this is fairly labor intensive with all the items that need to be removed.

Just let me know what code you get.
