Bad ABS (I think)

Braking pedal effort required to stop vehicle is excessive. "Check Engine" light is on. Dashboard Message is 'ABS is not available". Vehicle has a traction control button. Bled brakes but no change. Tried to skid tires but braking effort could not make it happen. Did npt feel juddering in brake pedal indicating that the ABS is operating.

What could be the cause of this problem?
Can a bad ABS Control Module result in this problem?

Hi,

If the brake pedal is hard to press, that is an indication there is no power assist. The assist on this vehicle is done via engine vacuum. There is a brake booster that the master cylinder is bolted to. There is a seal between the two that can fail. Check to see if you hear any hissing from that area. See pic below.
