I recently changed my rear brakes, new pads, new springs. I put it back together and now the rear brakes are dragging and my brake light is on on my dash. I do not know if I am adjusting the self adjuster right or what I am doing wrong.

The handbrake lights indicating could be due to low brake fluid or the lever switch is out of adjustment. If the brakes are dragging, it could be due to the caliper pins or pistons sticking. Self adjuster means you need not adjust it tight as it would self adjust.

You mentioned pads and spring, is this a drum with shoes or disc with pads model?
You need to have sufficient free travel for the handbrake lever and if the adjustment is wrong, the cable could be too taught resulting in further pedal travel as the shoes/pads cannot return fully and the self adjuster would not operate correctly.
