1997 Audi A4 6 cyl All Wheel Drive Manual

I just took my 97 Audi a4 for inspection, and it failed because the check engine light did not come on at start up. What could cause this - and how do I go about fixing it?

On an audi, anything can cause the check engine light to go on. It may be a simple fix such as an o2 sensor, or it may be a cam sensor. Without getting it scanned there is no way of knowing. Your car is a 97, so it is OBD 2 compatible, bring it to autozone and have it scanned for free. Let me know the results.

Madmike's response does not address the question. The issue--which I am also now facing as of this morning--is not that the light is on. The light doesn't come on at all. Not even at startup. I was told that it is likely not a blown light bulb, but a fuse. Anyone know where the fuse for the check engine light is located so I can change?

Thanks!
