Alternator installation

I removed the old alternator but the new one will not line up the mounting bolts. The alternator is hitting the timing belt housing. I bought the alternator from Advance Auto parts it look like the old one. Help please!

Good morning.

Did you measure the diameter of the case of the new one from the old one?

If the parts store gave you a larger output alternator, the case will be bigger and will not mount correctly.

Can you post a picture of the new one and the old one?

I did not measure I took the new one back to Advance they still had my old one and said they were the same size and would not give a new nor exchange.

I would return the one you purchased and get your old one back.

Go to another parts store for the part.

You need to go to the manager of the store and tell him you want another alternator. They have to stand behind there product.

Does not make sense they will not take it back. What reason did they give you?

They said it is the same size as the old one I have a call into the district manager. I just do not understand what I am doing wrong if it is the right one just two bolt should line up. The new alternator keep hitting the timmming belt houseing

That is because the housing is too big.

Call the corporate office and give them all the run around you have got.
