I just bought a '94 Rodeo with 111,000 miles, drives great. I was getting on the interstate and missed 5th gear, no grinding or jerking just rpm's went up. Let off and shifted into 4th with no problem, but when I tried to go to 5th again it would not engage, like it wasn't there, when I stopped 5th and Reverse are not there. 1st - 4th work fine and have not heard any noises from the transmission. Is there a linkage or something else between shifter and trans. Help!

Does the shifter actually slide into where 5th and reverse should be?

I had a similar issue where my shifter would not go into 5th and reverse, like something was blocking the gears. It turns out that it was a pseudo-common issue with Isuzu/GM transmissions when they are taken off. The pin will break but actually remain functional until the transmission is taken off, in which case any jarring will cause it to block the gears.

However, if yours slides into where 5th should be I am afraid I do not know.
