why does the engine serge from 1000 to 1500 rpms and does not idle smoothly. Please help

Hi toller,

When the idling speed is too hig, it would surge.
Possible causes are :
1. Idling speed adjusted too high. Check if the idle adjust screw has worked itself loose.

2. Check for dislodged vacumn hoses or vacumn leakages at manifold.

3. Check the Fast Idle Thermovalve, the valve tends to work itself loose. Check the coolant level and if the coolant hoses to FITV is clogge.

4. Check the EACV and coolant hoses for clogging.

5. Check the throttle cable adjustment, if cable is too tight, it would patially oprn the throttle.
