I have a lot of play in my gear selector is automatic transmission. I was wondering someone told me the linkage was loose. Does that sound about right. I have a p1780 code. I switch to neutral safety switch the light came back on within a day. I could almost put it into reverse from drive without it switching into another gear. Does anybody have any idea what that could be? It moves side to side, also the gear selector move side to side. It is not on the column it is on the floor.

Hello,

Yes it sounds like something has broken or worn out on the shifter which will cause the code. Remove the top portion of the shifter to inspect and repair or replace as needed.

Please let us know what happens.

Cheers, Ken

Well I finally figured out what it was it was the bushings in the T Bar underneath the shifter there's two bushings one on each side and I switched them and now the shifter is really tight.
